    Then I fear it is head down hard graft, especially if separated form one's loved ones. But if the mental hardship can be fought and won then the survival element can still be successful

    mental hardship will only exist if one is used to having lots of people around them, if one is used to being alone then hardship is reduced.
    there will be a lot of work to be done post SHTF and this could take ones mind of ones problems.

    I can't see it happening to me here. If my family members were somehow trapped in the city unable to leave, I would go & get them. But all the family know to come home (in forest off grid) if it all goes pear shaped. One son & family has already returned so they can save some money. Rest of family not far away.
