    Storing food.
    Water Storage.
    Survival Shelter.
    Personal Security.
    Sanitation.
    First Aid.

    Storing Food.
How much food you store and what foods you store are up to you.
the only wrong way to store food is to not have any when you really need it.

    Water Storage.
Knowing how much to store and how to store it is key.
also how to purify any water you might find.

    Survival Shelter.
Our home is our base camp, disaster comes in all shapes and sizes, bugging out may not be necessary.

    Personal Security.
Starts with you and extends to your home and surroundings.
    situational awareness is paramount.

    Sanitation.
We don't think about bad sanitation in a first world country.
in a SHTF event its all about preventing illness and not adding to an already bad situation.

    First Aid.
In a survival situation, you might be the only option and you could make the difference between someone dying or surviving.

This keys into Maslow's hierarchy of needs which is often shown as a pyramid of psychological needs, but can also be thought of as a pyramid of physical needs, for example, starting from the top water, then food, then shelter, then warmth etc, you can figure the rest out, but it encompasses the idea key areas of preparedness and is a good starting place to build a list of prepping priorities.
